THE CHURCH WILL STAND

A lowly carpenter with nails in his hands,
Came to earth to build a Church that would stand
Against the pow’rs of death, and darkness, and sin.
And with nothing more than common men,
He built a church that would not end,
Through threatened from without and within
And through some thought the cross
meant the church was dead,
An empty tomb was proof instead
That He would rise again to reign evermore.

And the Church will stand triumphantly
Against the pow’rs of earth and Hell
Weathered and battle-scared,
still the Church is alive and well!
Through kingdoms may rise, every kingdom will fall
That’s built on sinking sand.
And only the Church of the living God forever will stand.
Down through time the Church has stood the test
Though evil men have tried their best
To destroy this Church not built with earthly hands
And when a brother would fall,
and the world would scorn,
this church will stand, it will brave the storm
For it’s built upon the rock, and not the sinking sand.

And though some think the Church is doomed to fall,
Time will prove that truth will prevail,
When the eastern skies part
The whole world will know!
